Biographical/historical: The Ravel family was a Parisian troupe who performed acrobatics, tumbling, rope dancing, and Charles Mazurier's pantomime ballets. They also toured extensively in America from the 1830s to the 1860s. Gabriel Ravel, likely the male dancer depicted in the print, was the leader of the troupe and a celebrated rope dancer.
