Abstract

Two interviews with Annabelle Lyon, each conducted by Lucile Brahms Nathanson as host, for broadcast by WHPC-FM, the radio station of Nassau Community College, on its series Making the dance scene. Streaming file 1 (approximately 15 minutes). Music and introductory remarks by Lucille Brahms Nathanson; Annabelle Lyon speaks with Lucille Brahms Nathanson about her professional stage debut, as a soloist, at Lewisohn Stadium in [Michel] Fokine's work Les sylphides; dancing for George Balanchine in the Metropolitan Opera ballet; her relatively short career as a dancer; the musical comedy Carousel; her background including her decision as a child to become a dancer; her classes, on scholarship, with Fokine including some of the other students; closing remarks and music. Streaming file 2 (approximately 15 minutes). Music and introductory remarks by Lucille Brahms Nathanson; Annabelle Lyon speaks with Lucille Brahms Nathanson about teaching ballet, to children, including how she learned how to teach; her unsuccessful experience with the creative (as opposed to formal) approach to teaching ballet; her very good experience teaching at the American School of Ballet; Michel Fokine's influence on her teaching; her experience dancing in a Russian night club in New York City; closing remarks and music.
