Biographical/historical: The editors of The Correspondence note Berg's ascription to James Munroe & Co., the original publisher of "A Week," but also that Thoreau had bought all their remaining copies in 1853, so that this proposal was more probably sent to Ticknor and Fields (HDT has sent Fields 12 copies of the book in October 1854). The book was not republished until 1862.
