Part 2. Miriam Newman, BBC radio host, introduces various cultural events held in 1990 in Europe and America. She announces “Paper mask”, the 1990 British drama film directed by Christopher Morahan. Also includes Leida Snow's review of “Shōgun,” the new musical, with book and lyrics by John Driver, and music by Paul Chihara, based on James Clavell's 1976 novel, and the 1980 television mini-series of the same name based on it. Snow's review accompanied by brief interviews with John Driver, the librettist and lyricist, Michael Smuin, director and choreographer, and Peter Karrie, the leading man. The program also includes Gideon Bachmann's observation of the 1990 Venice Film Festival; and Newman's announcement of the premiere of the English National Opera's production of the opera Wojciech (music by Alban Berg; based on Büchner's play), accompanied by interview with Victor Price, translator of Büchner's plays, who discusses the production; and excerpt from the opera. Newman also reports on other news from the Royal Opera, such as conductor Colin Davis, who was awarded with the Silver Medal for his 25 years association with the Royal Opera after he conducted Puccini's opera Turandot, excerpts of which played during the program; accompanied by the interview with operatic soprano Gwyneth Jones.
