Creation/Production Credits: William Reenan transcribed Hawthorne's diary of 1859 for W. T. H. Howe of the American Book Company. Between 1929-1932, Reenan tried to identify the persons and places noted the diary, corresponding with survivors, and the results of this research are contained in the notes. Reenan never published the diary. The Berg Collection holds two copies of Reenan's typescript and the more complete one has been digitized with the Hawthorne papers.
The correspondence is held at the Berg: William L. Reenan Correspondence.
Reenan also transcribed 56 of Una Hawthorne's letters to her grandmother and grandfather, and her aunts, Elizabeth Palmer Peabody and Mary Mann, also in the Berg Collection and also digitized (see: Hawthorne, Una, 56 ALS to aunts, EPP and MTPM, grandmother and grandfather. Jul. 19, 1852 - Jun 5, 1861. Typed transcriptions.).
