Clairville; choreography, Jean Baptiste Barré) was first presented at the Théâtre Lyrique, Paris, in 1854. This print probably portrays Menjaud in the role of Azor, the son of the Shah of Persia, and Laure Monier as L'étoile or the star.Biographical/historical: The polka-mazurka, a ballroom dance that first became popular in the 1840s, consisted of polka steps danced to the 3/4 time of the mazurka.
