Content: Original negative #: 28673; Schomburg copy negative #: SC-CN-81-0067; Caption on back: "With nearly 1,000 Negro women employed as burners, welders, scalers and in other capacities at the Kaiser Shipyards in Richmond, Calif., women war workers played an important part in the construction of the Liberty Ship, SS George Washington Carver, launched on May 7, 1943. Miss Eastine Cowner, a former waitress, is shown at her job as a scaler."
