Notes

Content: Printed on border: "London cries and characters of long ago. This man's appearance tells his trade; with rope on his shoulders, and cords in his hands, we hardly need to hear his cry… 'White-line' is a very familiar friend, used for window-blinds and other household purposes. 'Jack-line' is not so simple. We have to go to the kitchen to solve the mystery, and even then a modern kitchen would only explain the first syllable, 'jack.' " Includes additional text.
Source Note: Chatterbox. (Boston : L.C. Page Co. Inc., 1877-1899).
