Description
Lecture-demonstration by Erick Hawkins and members of his company. Dr. Alma M. Hawkins, chairman of the UCLA dance department, interviews him on his aims as an artist, and he discusses his musical collaboration with Lucia Dlugoszewski, the nature of choreographic movement, and dance as a metaphor of existence. Dance excerpts, in order of appearance, are: Duet from Here and now with watchers, danced in rehearsal clothes against the hanging set for Early floating by Hawkins and Nancy Meehan ; Geography of noon, danced in rehearsal clothes by Hawkins, Meehan, James Tyler, and Pauline de Groot, accompanied by Dlugoszewski ; Clown is everyone's ending, a solo danced by Hawkins ; solo from Early floating, danced by Hawkins.
