[Begins abruptly.] In response to questions from the press, Martha Graham explains the difference between ballet, modern and contemporary dance; Graham discusses how the designer Halston's understanding of the female body influences his costume design; her meeting with Rudolf Nureyev in London in 1967; Nureyev's appetite for new experiences; Graham announces changes to the Lucifer costumes and choreography; Nureyev's injury prior to the premiere of Lucifer; Graham's philosophy when choreographing for men, using Nureyev as an example [gap]. At the beginning of the open rehearsal, Graham explains the story behind The scarlet letter's "Love Duet" [music plays for ca. 5 min. while dance is performed, then applause]; more on the story of The scarlet letter; Graham introduces Lamentation as the next dance to be rehearsed and describes how she dressed the stage when it was first performed; briefly mentions her collaboration with composer Hunter Johnson on The scarlet letter [music plays for ca. 7 min. while dance is performed, then applause]; Graham thanks everyone for attending. [Ends abruptly.].
