Biographical/Historical: The Parisian publishing house of Basset was headed by André Basset (fl. 1749-1785), who was succeeded by his son Paul André Basset (fl. 1785-1819).

Abstract

Sheet containing sixteen compartments, in four rows, depicting commedia dell'arte characters, some of whom are portrayed more than once. The rectangular shape and small size (approximately 8 x 5 cm.) of the compartments suggest playing cards.
