Videotaped in performance for the Jerome Robbins Archive of the Recorded Moving Image by Jay Millard, with the assistance of grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and New York State Council on the Arts, at New York State Theater, New York, on June 10, 1990 (evening), during the New York City Ballet's Festival of Jerome Robbins' Ballets. Creation/Production Credits: Choreography: Jerome Robbins. Music: Morton Gould, based on a theme by Jerome Kern. Costumes: Florence Klotz. Lighting: Ronald Bates.

Abstract
A dance from Columbia Pictures' You were never lovelier (1942) provides the ballet's theme. Choreographed by Fred Astaire and Val Raset to music by Jerome Kern, it is performed in a b&w film clip by Astaire and Rita Hayworth. The ballet's variations, choreographed by Robbins to music by Gould, are danced on stage by the New York City Ballet.
