Description
Representation of a rather joyless dancing lesson. The woman at center stands in the position termed in ballet "à la seconde," her right arm curved over her head. The man at left, possibly the dancing master, appears to be exhorting or correcting her. In the background at right, an impossibly thin and attenuated woman stands on three-quarter pointe, facing away from the viewer. Also present are a man and three women, who watch the proceedings with varying degrees of interest.
