Sound quality is fair to poor. Muriel Stuart's voice is easily intelligible, but the voices of the students are sometimes difficult to understand. In addition, the recording is marred by extraneous noise and short periods of ambient noise. The final approximate 12 minutes consist of a class taught by Stuart.
Description
Muriel Stuart answers questions from the students in her workshop; the final approximate 12 minutes of the recording are of a class being taught by Stuart. Dorothy Bird is also present and occasionally asks Stuart questions. The workshop was held in Freeport, New York, around 1979. Streaming audio file (approximately 47 minutes). Muriel Stuart answers questions from students at her workshop; topics include muscular control and the teaching of technique; her classes, as a child, in "fancy dancing;" her apprenticeship with Anna Pavlova; Pavlova as a person; touring; Gelsey Kirkland as a student; studying with [Enrico] Cecchetti; changes in technique over the years; Pavlova as a dancer including her avoidance of fouetées [from approximately 33:45 minutes to the end of the streaming file, the recording consists of what sounds like a class being taught by Stuart, including piano accompaniment and the occasional comments of observers].
