Interview with Lucia Chase conducted by Walter Terry, for broadcast on February 6, 1966 by radio station WNYC, New York, on its series Invitation to dance. The final approximate 8 minutes of the recording are announcements and music. Streaming audio file (approximately 27 minutes). [Music and introductory remarks by unidentified speaker.] Walter Terry introduces Lucia Chase, co-director of American Ballet Theatre; Lucia Chase speaks about the recent grant of emergency funds to American Ballet Theatre by the National Council on the Arts; the challenges of managing a ballet company the size of American Ballet Theatre including the need for outside funds; the repertory; choreographers regulary engaged by the company and the dancers' training; the principles underlying the company; the workshop programs; how she came to be co-director with Oliver Smith of the company; annual tours [announcements by unidentified speaker and music].
