Interview with Antony Tudor conducted by David Raher at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center, in New York City, on November 19, 1973. From time to time, Raher reads aloud excerpts from various dance critics' writings and asks Tudor to respond to them. Streaming file 1 (approximately 31 minutes). Antony Tudor and David Raher speak about adapting dramatic plays to ballet; topics discussed include: writing about dance and the relationship of words to dance; using a play as inspiration for a ballet; Valerie Bettis's A streetcar named Desire; his Romeo and Juliet including Deborah Jowitt's critique; literature, including the Bible, as compared with a play as the basis for a ballet; Ninette de Valois's ballet Job [ends abruptly but continues on streaming file 2].
