Description
Interviews with André Eglevsky, each conducted by Lucile Brahms Nathanson as host, for broadcast by WHPC-FM, the radio station of Nassau Community College, on its series Making the dance scene, possibly in 1976. Streaming file 1 (approximately 16 minutes). Music; introduction of guest André Eglevsky and his background by host Lucille Brahms Nathanson; André Eglevsky speaks about his school, in Massapequa [N.Y.] including its origins; the students and classes; teaching children; his company, Eglevsky Ballet Company, including its relationship to the school and its repertoire; music and closing remarks by Nathanson. Streaming file 2 (approximately 16 minutes). Music; introduction of André Eglevsky by Lucille Brahms Nathanson; André Eglevsky speaks about his early training; joining the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo at age 15; emigrating to the United States where he danced with the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo, Ballet Theatre (later American Ballet Theatre), the Marquis de Cuevas' company [Grand Ballet de Monte Carlo], and finally New York City Ballet; male ballet dancers and their training; the role of a porteur including an anecdote about Alicia Markova; training of male ballet dancers in Russia [the former Soviet Union]; music and closing remarks by Nathanson.
