Content: Performance onstage by the New York City Ballet on the final evening of its Tchaikovsky Festival, June 14, 1981. Second movement of the symphony, Allegro con grazia, choreographed by Jerome Robbins; costumes: Ben Benson. Danced by Patricia McBride, Helgi Tomasson, and corps de ballet. Third movement played by orchestra only (a few bars are recorded here). Fourth movement, Adagio lamentoso, choreographed by George Balanchine; costumes: Rouben Ter-Arutunian and Kermit Love. Danced by Karin von Aroldingen, Judith Fugate, Stephanie Saland, and corps de ballet.
Funding: Preservation of this video was supported by a grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission.
