Notes
Content: XI-24 From a photograph of the originals in the Mattatuck Historical Society, Waterbury, Conn. [typewritten on separate paper] 249 (a). Grog was then a universal ration, both afloat and ashore, whenever rum was obtainable. The cartridge of those days, though not nearly so self-contained and complete as that of the present time, was at least a link between the age during which men had to measure out every charge for every shot and the modern age of cartridges complete with bullet, powder, and cap.
