Content: [Handwritten on verso] This house, in Bath, the oldest town in N.C., was built by a Frenchman, Monsieur Coutanche, and has ever since been occupied. Its chimney, said to be the largest in the country, is 7 ft. wide and 4 ft. deep, with stairways leading up into it. It was bought by a man named Mrsh in 1776, and is hence commonly called the Marsh house.
