Description
This Hungarian hussar shows the uniform features that characterized this kind of light cavalryman. His cylindrical fur hat is called a “busby”, while the elaborately braided and trimmed jacket he has draped over his left shoulder (the arms were almost never put through the sleeves) is a “pelisse”. The tight jacket he’s actually wearing is called a “dolman”. The whole outfit was originally that of the Hungarian cavalry, but the dashing, striking look was copied by mounted soldiers in many European armies throughout the 17- and 1800’s.
