"The Dacian Wars, 101-106 A.D. Bas-relief, Trajan's Column, 113-114 A.D. Engraving early 18th cen."--written on border.Priests attached to the Roman army (at left) watch a troop of cavalry ride by. Roman cavalry could be highly variable in quality, and armies on campaign often supplemented their riders with auxiliary horsemen drawn from neighboring or allied countries. Relief from Trajan’s Column in Rome.
