Content: Written on border: "1888" Printed on border: "Right and left lasts were introduced into England about 1785. In the various fashions for shoes which have arisen since their introduction, the lasts upon which they were made have varied with them. The style and fashion of the shoe depend chiefly upon the shape and form of the last. Lasts are generally made of rock or hard maple wood. A cord of wood will make on the average about 500 pairs of lasts." "Julius Bien & Co. photo-lith. N.Y." Includes additional text.
