Notes
Content: Printed on verso: "Windowless department store in State Street, Chicago. Except for display windows the facade is of glass brick construction."
Content: Printed on mounting: "That tomorrow's type of building is already here is strikingly depicted by this unusual night veiw of the retail world's first important windowless (except for display windows) structure. Located in Chicago's famed Loop district, it is significant that this eye-arresting edifice is on the world's most famous merchandising thoroughfare, State Street. Representing a form of luminous architecture, it shows the trend to 'build with light.' Thus, though the application of insulux glass block for its wall areas, the structure has its inteior flooded with diffused daylight, and at night -- well, the picture speaks for itself. Architectural credit goes to Alfred S. Alschuler, Inc. Glass blocks are manufactured by Owens- Illinois Glass Company."
