Extent: 22.5 x 30.5 cm.
Description
Set design for Act I scene 1, for the opera ballet performed at the Petit Bourbon Palace, April 14, 1654, in which the king, Louis XIV appeared. Libretto by Francesco Buti, text to the ballet by Issac de Benserade, music by Carlo Caprioli. This scene depicts Chiron's cave; the lower level showing the environs of the cave, six characters dancing in a semi-circle, centaur standing at left. The upper level showing the heavens with Pelée riding in his chariot.
