Biographical/historical: Frontispiece to Despréaux's book Mes passe-temps: chansons, suivies de l'Art de la danse, poëme en quatre chants, calqué sur l'Art poétique de Boileau Despréaux, published in 1806. Self-portrait made in later life by Despréaux, whose multi-faceted career included the professions of dancer at the Paris Opéra, composer, teacher, ballet master, playwright, and author.
