Interview with John Taras conducted by Kyra Lynn Kaptzan on June 13, 1979, and broadcast on July 6, 1979; and interview with Janet Eilber conducted by Kyra Lynn Kaptzan on June 14, 1979 (broadcast date not known), in each case, for the radio program Ballet Beat on WNYU-FM. Streaming audio file 1; recorded June 13, 1979, aired July 6, 1979 (approximately 30 minutes). John Taras speaks with Kyra Lynn Kaptzan about how he became a choreographer; performing as a dancer at the 1939 World's Fair; becoming a rehearsal director for American Ballet Theatre; staging ballets for Alicia Markova and Anton Dolin; his sources of choreographic inspiration. He describes the job of ballet master and then discusses the process of staging George Balanchine's ballets; future plans; selecting dancers for New York City Ballet. Streaming audio file 2; recorded June 14, 1979, broadcast date unknown (approximately 25 minutes). Janet Eilber speaks with Kyra Lynn Kaptzan about her dance studies at Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan; her post-graduation interview with Martha Graham; studying at the Juilliard School; joining the Martha Graham Dance Company; her roles in the Graham repertory; international touring; dancing with the American Dance Machine. She compares performing Graham's choreography with performing musical theater choreography; discusses performing the role of Cassandra in Clytemnestra for television; leisure activities.
