Abstract
Part 2 (the beginning of the recording) and Part 1 (00-11:22 minutes). Leida Snow interviews on phone Marsha Norman, American playwright, screenwriter, and novelist. Norman talks about the upcoming 1993 Broadway production of the musical "The red shoes" for which she wrote the book and lyrics. She compares the musical with the 1948 British feature film "The red shoes" about a ballet dancer (written, directed and produced by the team of Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger, known collectively as The Archers). Excerpt from BBC undated radio program Meridian includes announcements of various cultural events, such as two films, "The Doors," biographical film about the 1960-70's rock band of the same name which emphasizes the life of its lead singer, Jim Morrison (directed by Oliver Stone); and "Cyrano de Bergerac," the 1990 French comedy drama film directed by Jean-Paul Rappeneau and based on the 1897 play of the same name by Edmond Rostand, adapted by Jean-Claude Carrière and Rappeneau. Also contains the announcement of the 1991 Birmingham Royal Ballet production of the ballet "Cyrano," accompanied by the interview with David Bintley, the choreographer of the ballet and of the upcoming performance of modern dance group of teens from Zimbabwe.
