Description
Lecture-demonstration on four ballroom dances popular in 19th-century America: the waltz, polka, mazurka, and schottische. Contemporary prints portray the ballrooms and dancers of the time. The discussion includes ballroom etiquette and a demonstration of "fan language," by means of which a lady could nonverbally convey messages to a would-be suitor.
