Stuart Hodes speaks with John Gruen about his family background and early interest in theater; his experience in the U.S. Army during World War II; returning to the United States and Brooklyn College; taking dance classes at Martha Graham's school; joining the Martha Graham Dance Company and touring with the company; Martha Graham as a person including an anecdote about Douglas Huddleston; rehearsing Graham's Letter to the world, including as compared with rehearsing her Dark meadow; her choreographic process; her Deaths and entrances; Graham as a performer [ends abruptly but continues on streaming file 2].
