Abstract
Interview with Kirsten Simone and Henning Kronstam conducted by Walter Terry, as host, as recorded in December 1965, for broadcast on January 16, 1966 by radio station WNYC, New York, on its series Invitation to dance. At the time of the interview, Kirsten Simone and Henning Kronstam were principal dancers with the Royal Danish Ballet, which had just completed a United States tour including a season at the New York State Theater [now the David H. Koch Theater] at Lincoln Center in New York (N.Y.). Streaming audio file (approximately 25 minutes). Walter Terry introduces his guests Kirsten Simone and Henning Kronstam; Kirsten Simone speaks with Terry about the role of Carmen [in Roland Petit's ballet, Carmen]; the role of Julie in Birgit Cullberg's ballet, Miss Julie including as compared with that of Carmen; the most important attributes of a ballerina; Henning Kronstam speaks about going from lyrical, classic roles, such as James in La sylphide, to dramatic roles, such as the teacher in Flemming Flindt's The lesson, and vice-versa; the role of James in La sylphide including the invaluable coaching he received from Gerda Karstens; Simone and Kronstam speak about dancing George Balanchine's ballets including Apollo; Kronstam speaks about his administrative plans for the Royal Danish Ballet [Kongelige Danske ballet] schools. Simone and Karstam speak about their partnership; their possible futures within the Royal Danish Ballet and the schools.
