Statement of responsibility: John H. Bufford's Lith.
Biographical/historical: Born and trained as a dancer in Italy, the ballerina Giuseppina Morlacchi toured widely in Europe and the United States, sometimes with her own troupe. In 1867 she arrived in Boston, Massachusetts, which became a base for her, and she is said to have introduced the cancan to the city.
