Sound quality is good overall. The recording is marred by occasional extraneous noise and short gaps, but the speakers' voices are easily intelligible.
Description
Interview with Erik Bruhn conducted by John Gruen as research for his book Erik Bruhn: danseur noble (1979), in New York, N,Y., on May 26, 1978. This is Part 17 of an 18-part series. However, there is no audio for parts 2 and 10, which are available only as edited transcripts. Streaming file 1 (approximately 47 minutes). Erik Bruhn speaks with John Gruen about his friendship with Lillian Moore including their book entitled: Bournonville and ballet technique; studies and comments on August Bournonville's Études chorégraphiques (1961, 1973); briefly, Selma Jeanne Cohen; Chris [Christopher] Allan; Bruhn's own choreography including Festa [ends abruptly but continues on streaming file 2]. Streaming file 2 (approximately 34 minutes). Erik Bruhn speak with John Gruen about staging and reconstructing ballets, including La sylphide, Swan lake, Coppélia, and Giselle; his work Here we come, created for the National Ballet of Canada school; his idea for a new ballet; Ray Barra; people he cares about; his thoughts on friendship including his respective friendships with Nureyev and with Susse [Wold]; Constantin Patsalis; his thoughts on love; speaking and writing about himself.
