Extent: 1 audiotape reel (approximately 27 min.) : acetate, half-track, ips not specified ; 7 in.
Sound quality is fair to good. There are two short breaks in the narrative, and the first approximate 11:45 minutes and final 2:25 minutes of the interview are marred by extraneous noise due to the fact that it is being recorded in a restaurant.
Description
Interview conducted by Marian Horosko, as host, with Ted Shawn, primarily at the Russian Tea Room restaurant in New York City, for broadcast on radio station WNCN-FM, New York on its series Profiles, in 1964. Horosko states that the program is to include an interview with Martyn Green, but the recording contains only the interview with Shawn. Streaming file (approximately 27 minutes). [Introductory remarks by host Marian Horosko.] Marian Horosko introduces Ted Shawn; Ted Shawn speaks about the 23rd season of the Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival including companies and dancers who will be performing; his marriage and partnership with Ruth St. Denis; an anecdote about performing in Topeka, Kansas [break in narrative and apparent change of venue]; Ted Shawn speaks about the Denishawn Dancers; touring including his view that audiences on tour should be entertained; American dancers today [break in narrative and apparent change of venue back to the Russian Tea Room]; male dancing and Shawn's pioneering role in making dance a serious career for men [closing remarks by Horosko].
