Description
Interview with Marie Rambert conducted by Anton Dolin on July 2, 1979 at Marie Rambert's home, as background for a documentary on Serge Diaghilev by Frederick J. Maroth. The interview, which includes remarks by others present, is approximately one hour in total; the final approximate 20 minuets of streaming audio file 2 consists of recorded music. Streaming audio file 1 (approximately 43 minutes). Marie Rambert speaks with Anton Dolin about meeting Serge Diaghilev and joining the Ballets russes; rehearsing Vaslaw Nijinsky's ballet Le sacre de printemps [Rite of spring]; an anecdote about Tamara Karsavina, Nijinsky, and Diaghilev, in connection with Nijinsky's ballet Jeux; the premiere of Le sacre de printemps; the London performance; discussion of Leonide Massine as a person and as an artist; more about the premiere of Le sacre de printemps; Diaghilev's visiting Rambert at her studio and watching a class; Rambert and Ashley Dukes' visit to Diaghilev in Monte-Carlo (Monaco); Lydia Sokolova; her last meeting with Diaghilev, in London; Romola de Pulszky Nijinsky; Serge Lifar; Nijinsky as a dancer and as a person [ends abruptly but continues on streaming audio file 2].
