Interview with Arthur Mitchell conducted by Marian Horosko, as host (approximately 13 minutes), and interview with Selma Jeanne Cohen conducted by Alvin H. Reiss, as host (approximately 10 minutes), on radio station WNYC-FM, New York on its series The world of dance, for broadcast on August 4 (and re-broadcast on August 5), 1968. Streaming file (first approximately 13 minutes). [Music and introductory remarks by unidentified announcer.] Arthur Mitchell speaks with Marian Horosko, as host, about his plans and ideas for a new dance program at the Harlem School of the Arts including his hope that it will lead to a professional company; in general terms, the classes and the curriculum; funding sources. Streaming file (from approximately 13:10 minutes to 24:08 minutes). Alvin H. Reiss, as host, introduces the journal Dance perspectives and Selma Jeanne Cohen, its editor; Cohen speaks about the journal including the sources of material such as photographs and how topics are chosen; its specialization in historical and critical articles; some of her favorite issues of the past; the long lead time an issue typically requires; finding writers; the current issue on Merce Cunningham, in particular its non-biographical approach; where the journal can be obtained; the objectives of the journal and its non-profit publisher, Dance Perspectives Foundation [music and announcements by unidentified announcer].
