DescriptionInterview with Niels Bjørn Larsen and Elvi Henriksen conducted by John Gruen on July 22, 1977, in Copenhagen, Denmark, as part of the research for John Gruen's book, Erik Bruhn: danseur noble (Viking Press, New York, 1979). The interview is conducted in English, but occasionally, Elvi Henriksen speaks in Danish and her husband, Larsen, interprets.

Niels Bjørn Larsen, former director of the Royal Danish Ballet [Kongelige Danske ballet], speaks with John Gruen about Erik Bruhn as a young dancer with the Royal Danish Ballet inclduing his lack of opportunity due to the seniority system; Larsen and his wife, concert pianist Elvi Henriksen speak about Bruhn's musicality; working with Bruhn after Larsen became director; their personal and professional relationship with Bruhn including his fundamental aloofness; ballets made for Bruhn by Roland Petit and Birgit Cullberg; Bruhn's intelligence and self-knowledge; Bruhn's transition from classical to character dancer.
