Abstract

CD 1, tracks 1-7. Arthur Bell interviews Bob [Robert] L. Livingston, first openly gay man appointed to the New York City Human Rights Commission in 1977 by Mayor Abraham Beame. Livingston discusses his life and political career as a gay activist, his support of gay and lesbian rights movement, founding one of the city's first homosexual rights groups, the New York Political Action Council, and gay bar life in New York City in the 1970's (December 16, 1978). CD 1, tracks 8-10 and CD 2. American composer and electronic musician Wendy Carlos (born Walter Carlos; November 14, 1939) discusses her life and career as a composer, and shares her experience writing music for the 1980 film "The shining," produced and directed by Stanley Kubrick. She talks about her long-term collaboration with another performing artist Rachel Elkind. She also recounts the details of her transsexual process, her reassignment surgery (May 1972), and after surgery hormonal treatments [1980?].
