Content: Caption on back: "New York, N. Y. - The widow of Coast Guardsman Charles W. David, Jr., a Steward's Mate first class, formerly of the Bronx, New York receives posthumously the Navy and Marine Corps Medal from Rear Admiral Stanley V. Parker, District Coast Guard Officer; Watching the presentation are Lieut. [Lieutenant] Robert W. Anderson of 291 East 8th St., Brooklyn and the hero's son, three-year-old Neil Adrian; David saved the life of Lieut. Anderson and helped save nearly a hundred others who were thrown into stormy, freezing Atlantic last year when a transport was torpedoed; Diving again and again into the dark seas, David finally succumbed to pneumonia from exhaustion and exposure; The medal, one of the highest Naval awards given, was accompanied by a citation signed by Secretary of Navy James Forrestal praising David's valor and bravery."
