Marian Horosko introduces Maria Tallchief, winner of the 1965 Capezio dance award; Maria Tallchief speaks with Marian Horosko about how honored she feels to have won this award; her background including her very early dance lessons in Fairfax, Oklahoma; moving to California to pursue her ballet training; changing her name from "Tall Chief" to "Tallchief;" her teachers Ernest Belcher and Bronislava Nijinska; performing, at age 15, with Cyd Charisse at the Hollywood Bowl; joining the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo; George Balanchine's casting of her in his works for the company; musicality and speed as elements of the Balanchine style, as seen at the New York City Ballet; George Balanchine as a choreographer; her plans for her daughter's dance training [music].
