Biographical/historical: David Teniers, known as David Teniers the younger, eclipsed his father in fame as a painter and etcher. He was born in Antwerp and worked there and in Brussels, where he served as the court painter of Archduke Leopold William. He often depicted scenes of peasant life in his paintings. Abraham Teniers, his brother, was also an artist.
Physical Description
Extent: 1 print : etching, b&w ; 20 x 23 cm.
Portrayal of a peasant couple dancing, surrounded by onlookers and others engaged in various forms of revelry. The dancers are accompanied by a bagpiper, who stands on a barrel behind them; a dog romps in the space before them. In the background is a house, with a fence that encloses the scene.
