Description
Janis Brenner (choreographer/dancer) discusses her career in dance; her first creative dance classes at age 5; ballet with Andre Eglevsky at age 8; modern dance with Carl Morris (Humphrey/Weidman technique) at age 13; becoming a dance major at Adelphi University for two years; leaving college to study dance in New York City; her first concert being at Dance Theater Workshop in 1975; joining the Murray Louis Company for 7 1/2 years; performing with guest artists including Rudolf Nureyev and Placido Domingo; leaving the Murray Louis Company around the age of 30; some works she created including Guilt, Shekhinah/Voices, UzaMaki, and Ton of Led; the lack of money for modern dance in the U.S. and how there is more respect and money for companies in Asia and Europe; where she sees her company in five years and the current financial problems with her company.
