Notes
Handwritten: "Apollo Amazonius seated on a throne in a rich Asiatic costume and Phrygian mitre his feet on a hypopodium plays a trigon. Before Apollo is Omphale holding two phials and a bandalette. Diana is seated and wears the costume of an Amazon with a Phrygian cap, and holds two javelins. Beside her is a large flower. The five other women are hierodules or acolytes. One speaks to Diana, another, seated, holds a mirror, another leans on a labre holding a fan and a bandalette. Above, one holds a phial and a crown, the other a ciste or casket, and between them are two love hermaphrodites with a thymlaterion or censer between them. Cabinet des Medailles, Paris."

Abstract
A Phrygian cap is a soft hat whose peak folds forward. A hypopodium is a low platform, here used as a footrest, while a trigon is a sort of triangular harp. Omphale was the daughter of a Lydian king and a lover of Herakles (Hercules). "Phials" here are not little bottles, but flat drinking cups. A bandelette is a decorated strip of cloth, often shown in the hands of people making offerings. Diana is the goddess of the moon and of the hunt. A labre (labrum) is a large basin on a pedestal for holding water.
