Citation/Reference: "All four portions of The Maine Woods are represented by a liberal quantity of surviving manuscript material, mainly early drafts. For 'Ktaadn' the most important document is a notebook formerly owned by Stephen Wakeman and now in the Berg Collection of the New York Public Library. Like Thoreau's other composition books of the mid- to late-1840s, the Berg Collection volume served both as a journal and as a draftbook for books and essays in progress. It has been cannibalized to some extent; of the 269 pages in Thoreau's original numbering, 20 full pages and parts of several others have been scissored out.... The bulk of the book is devoted to the 'Ktaadn' drafts, which begin on page 79 and continue through page 241 with only four internal digressions....
