Abstract

Disc 1: Monk performs solo a cappella pieces from Songs from the hill (Porch, Wa-lie-oh, Insect, Descending, Jew's harp), Light songs (Click song no.1, Click song no. 2), Volcano songs (Offering). Monk is then joined by Theo Bleckmann and the two perform songs from Facing north (Chinook, Keeping warm, Long shadows, Hocket). Disc 2: Monk performs vocal pieces accompanying herself on the piano. Songs include Gotham lullaby, Travelling from Education of the girlchild, and Last song from The Impermanence project. Monk is joined by Katie Geissinger and Theo Bleckmann and the trio performs Choosing companions from Atlas: an opera in three parts. Geissinger performs Waltz in fives from The Politics of quiet with Bleckmann on piano. The three are then joined by Allison Sniffin and they perform songs from The Games (Panda chant no. 1, Memory song), American Archeology no. 1: Roosevelt Island (Boatman), and The Impermanence project (Mieke's melody no. 5). Jonathan Nye joins the ensemble and they perform Panda chant no. 2 from The Games. They all bow and exit. Monk returns for an encore song (The Tale from Education of the girlchild). The others join and they perform Masks from Mercy. Monk then performs a final solo song, Lullaby no. 4 from Songs from the hill.
