Content: Picture caption: "Dieses gemeine Verbrechen wurde in England als 'Seeschlacht' und 'Heldentat' gefeiert. Acht wehrlose deutsche Matrosen fanden ihr Grab auf norwegischer Erde, meuchlings ermordet von britischen Piraten."
Content: This refers to German sailors killed when the British destroyer "Cossack" entered neutral Norwegian waters (February 16, 1940) to free Commonwealth merchant seamen captured by the German raider "Graf Spee" and held prisoner aboard her supply ship, the "Altmark". The memorial ribbon at bottom center is from Grand Admiral Raeder and reads "From the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy".
