Description
Interview with John Hightower conducted by Walter Terry, as host; recorded on March 31,1966 and broadcast on October 1 by radio station WNYC, New York, on its series Invitation to dance. Streaming audio file (approximately 24 minutes). Walter Terry, as host, introduces his guest John Hightower; John Hightower speaks about the creation of the New York State Council on the Arts; the scope and limitations of the Council's programs including the criteria governing the level of support provided; how the Council works to develop the audience in New York State for avant garde and modern dance; the Council's support of dance education including special projects (for example, sending New York City Ballet to Buffalo, New York for a week) and technical assistance; Labanotation and its potential.
