Content: The Malta convoy battles were some of the most fiercely fought naval engagements of the war, as the Italian and German air forces repeatedly attacked British ships bringing supplies to the besieged island. Here, a tri-motor SM-79 bomber launches its torpedo at a World War I vintage British battleship. Note the wakes from other ships in the convoy crossing the picture.
