Content: Caption title, p. 1. Approximate date from physical evidence, including watermarks.
Content: Manuscript copies of 151 letters chiefly from Voltaire to Marie de Vichy Chamrond, marquise du Deffand, with some replies of the marquise to Voltaire. Letters dated chiefly from 1750 to 1770; the first letter (ca. 1740) is undated; letters 2-5 are from 1749, 1736, 1734 and 1732.|bAlso includes several letters from Voltaire to other persons, e.g. 2 to Mme. de Grafigny (Mar. 22 and May 16, 1758) and one to Alexis-Claude Clairault (Aug. 27, 1759).
Ownership: Martin J. Gross Collection.
Content: Manuscript in brown ink, on both sides of late 18th-cent. paper, in at least 2 unidentified hands, probably secretarial. Watermarks: "Sebille van Ketel & Wassenbergh"; arms with initials "SKW"; "D&C Blauw."
