Written on border: "1882" Printed on border: "The first machine which performed the stretching of a hat body successfully, on wool as well as on fur hats, was the corrugation stretcher invented by R. Eickemeyer, and this machine in its various modifications to suit the different kinds of work is now almost exclusively used in the hat factories of this country." "The hat having been stretched, it now remains to make what is called in the trade the band, namely, the sharp angle formed by the junction of the brim and side-crown. This operation is performed on the blocking machine, of which fig. 337 is a perspective view…" Includes additional text.
